MixFM Morning Mix

MRS. GRANT'S BIO / MRS. GRANT'S BLOG

Mrs. Grant is a Tucson native, born and raised right here in the beautiful Old Pueblo.  She and her husband Don are parents to 2 wonderful, very active kids; daughter Mackenzie, and son Jeremy.

Mrs. Grant came to work at MIXfm in March of 2003 after applying for the job as morning show administrative assistant 3 times. The first time was in 1998, again in 2000 but the 3rd time was a charm in 2003. Now 7 years later, Mrs. Grant is the "soccer playing, zumba dancing mom" on the Bobby Rich Morning MIX.

Okay, time for the answer to the big question “Why Mrs. Grant?” The simple answer is she had the same first name as someone else on the show so, to limit confusion we needed her to use another name on-air. One day after the show, while returning a phone call to the nurse at her daughter’s school, it happened... As soon as the words, “Hello Mrs. Anderson, I am Mrs. Grant, Mackenzie’s mom,” left her mouth we knew it was the perfect choice.  She IS Mrs. Grant.

Mrs. Grant's favorite way to pass time is hanging out with her friends and family. She likes to barbeque and invite friends, family and/or neighbors to her house to eat, swim and just kick back and catch up for hours. She loves to be outdoors, and her idea of a great vacation is camping for a couple days somewhere in Arizona or on the beach in California.

Scared Straight
By mrsgrant @ 1:16 PM :: 1614 Views :: 9 Comments ::

I am a notorious multi-tasker and I think, I am a good at it.  However, some things really NEED you’re a FULL attention 100% of the time.

I’ll admit, I check my email and text in my car, when I am parked at my daughter’s school.  I have even started a text at a red light and finished a word and pressed send a few seconds after the light has turned green.  I am ashamed to admit that I have become so lax about the importance of paying full attention to my surroundings while driving.

I know this is going to sound corny but, I was recently "scared straight" by a video that is making it's rounds on YouTube.  It is a PSA airing in the UK that graphically depicts what can happen when you text and drive.  It 's 4 minutes long but it is so worth it.  I will not text and drive again after watching this video.  I may pull over or text while parked but definitely not while driving.

Wow, that is powerfull. Everyone out there that is driving and or have a teen that is driving or going to be driving needs to watch this. My Daughter is a texter and will start driving soon, I have told her about texting, talking on the phone while driving is forbiden. This is one video clip she will have to watch. This video should get the point accross to most people. The down turn side is that some people will watch it and still think that they are better and can still talk and text while driving.

Mandatory viewing for anybody who drives and does ANYthing else simultaneously. Should be considered for drivers' ed. courses in high school.

Thank you for this information. I appreciate hearing about things like this from you all in the mornings. This should be mandatory viewing in every driver's ed class.

Anyone who doubts that talking on the cell phone and/or texting while driving can't result in this should spend a day or so in a trauma center. It only takes a minute to change a life forever.

Dear Mrs Grant,I saw this video that I been hearing you guys mention on your morning show,
we all have to remember that our cars are NOT TOYS and these days your teenage drivers think that way,I been driving for over 33 years and have never been in an accident and I thank GOD for keeping me safe behind the wheel. I also have texted when driving but I have an old Nokia phone where I can type without looking at the phone and keeping my eyes on the road ahead of me and if someone is in the car with me I usually asked them to type the text for me. Thank you for your great info on your show and stay safe. God Bless you all. David

Mrs. Grant,
I am part of the Southern Arizona Safety Council and we sent this email around to everyone on our safety lists. I hope they are in turn sending on to everyone including the teenage drivers out there. It really hits home.

Just watched this video with my 16 year old daughter and it has made an impact on us both. She was taught in Drivers Ed to put the phone in the trunk or back seat where it cannot be reached and I have been trying to do that with mine since then as well. Trying is not acceptable after seeing this, it WILL be done. No reason for the phone to be in the front seat while driving. People can wait or me to pull over and be completely parked or at my destination.

This video brought tears to my eyes. I am a former Corrections Officer. One inmate I had on my case load was a fireman. Due to him playing on his cell phone, he caused an accident. No alcohol or drugs were involved. The driver of the other car died about a month later as a result from the accident and the fireman got 7 years prison time. Is that text message or phone call really worth it?
I will let both of my daughters know about this video. I think this video should be shown is the high schools.

Hi Mrs Grant, I posted this on Bobby's FB wall last night and he referred me to your blog.

San Diego (specifically RSF) had another teen drinking & driving fatality last weekend. I wonder where those horrible movies that were shown to us in Driver's Ed both in High School and Traffic School in the 1960's and the 1970's w...ent. Want to talk about scared straight!

I think these movies should be dug up and made mandatory once again. Skrew the rights and skrew sheltering our children and show them the damn movies. Perhaps some children, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, friends...... lives would be saved. Those movies made you feel as though you were in those cars. Try having a drink and driving after watching those movies. Every six months a new movie needs to be viewed and signed off by the school(?) and reported to the DMV or licenses be revoked until age 25(?).
