MixFM Morning Mix

MRS. GRANT'S BIO / MRS. GRANT'S BLOG

Mrs. Grant is a Tucson native, born and raised right here in the beautiful Old Pueblo.  She and her husband Don are parents to 2 wonderful, very active kids; daughter Mackenzie, and son Jeremy.

Mrs. Grant came to work at MIXfm in March of 2003 after applying for the job as morning show administrative assistant 3 times. The first time was in 1998, again in 2000 but the 3rd time was a charm in 2003. Now 7 years later, Mrs. Grant is the "soccer playing, zumba dancing mom" on the Bobby Rich Morning MIX.

Okay, time for the answer to the big question “Why Mrs. Grant?” The simple answer is she had the same first name as someone else on the show so, to limit confusion we needed her to use another name on-air. One day after the show, while returning a phone call to the nurse at her daughter’s school, it happened... As soon as the words, “Hello Mrs. Anderson, I am Mrs. Grant, Mackenzie’s mom,” left her mouth we knew it was the perfect choice.  She IS Mrs. Grant.

Mrs. Grant's favorite way to pass time is hanging out with her friends and family. She likes to barbeque and invite friends, family and/or neighbors to her house to eat, swim and just kick back and catch up for hours. She loves to be outdoors, and her idea of a great vacation is camping for a couple days somewhere in Arizona or on the beach in California.

Sharing an experience via text

People ask me from time to time when they meet me in public if “we,” The Bobby Rich Morning MIX, really have as much fun as it sounds like we are having when we are on the radio.  We really do, we like to crack each other up. I especially like to crack the guys up right before they turn their microphones on to talk.  I always tell people, “I love my job and I really enjoy working with those guys.”   The usual response from people is “you can tell” or “it really sounds like it on the radio.”

I think the best part is, we get along outside of work too.  Not that we spend a lot of time together outside of work because we are all busy with family, friends and other obligations but we are always communicating with each other.

A great example of that took place this weekend.  Bobby had been on vacation and was going to head back to Tucson but he didn’t know what time the Wildcats would be playing on Sunday so, he sent a text to Greg and me.  Which led to short series of texts between the 3 of us about; the time of the game, what team we would be playing, what they were ranked, and when Bobby would be driving back to Tucson, etc.  I realized I would not be near a television to watch the game so my closing text to Bobby and Greg was “I am in Phx for a soccer tournament this weekend so I may be depending on U for basketball updates.”  That was the last text I sent or received from the guys.

The next day we were at the soccer field waiting for the girls to check in at noon and I realized the U of A game had already started.  I remembered we had found a Phoenix AM radio station that had the UofA game on Friday afternoon on our drive up.  I looked over to the parking lot and a couple of the mom’s who had been discussing U of A basketball during lunch, were sitting in their SUV trying to escape the wind until the soccer game started at 1 o'clock.  I ran over to them and asked them if they were listening to the radio.  They weren’t so, I rattled off the AM radio station frequency, they turned it on and sure enough the game was on.  I jumped in the back seat and we listened to the game while watching our girls warm up on the field in front of us.

The first text came in at 12:27 from Greg “Az leads 28 – 14 w 3 min left in 1st” as I was responding another text came in from Bobby “28 - 14 cats with 3 minutes in half.”  I finished my response “Thank You!!!! That’s great news! GO CATS!!!!” then I responded to Greg “Thank You! GO CATS!!!”  I felt a little guilty for not telling the guys that I was listening to the game on the radio but, then I realized I would have to get out of the car as soon as my daughter’s soccer game started so, I would need their updates then.

The soccer game started 20 minutes late and the U of A game was pretty intense at that point but I got out of the SUV.  I watched the soccer game for several minutes.  Between hand signals from the ladies in the SUV and my text updates, I should have felt pretty connected to the basketball game but I didn’t.  Finally, I couldn’t stand it any more so I jumped back in the SUV with 7 minutes left in the second half of the U of A game.

As the game was coming to an end the text updates were coming in more frequently.  It was great to know that both Bobby and Greg were updating me on the score and the time as the game progressed. I responded quickly to each with the excitement I felt.  I was happy to be sharing the experience with them in real-time via text even though I was 120 miles away.

At the same time, I was also sharing the experience with the moms in the SUV, as we listened to the game on the radio WHILE watching the soccer game on the field in front of us.   Leave it to the women of our group to find a way to multi-task so we didn’t miss anything.   I did feel a little guilty for not telling Bobby and Greg, I was listening to the game on the radio and also for not standing right on the sidelines at the start of my daughter’s game.  But it was great to experience the U of A win “with” Bobby and Greg as it happened.

As for my daughter’s game, I reminded myself I could see the entire field from my seat in the SUV and my daughter wasn’t on the field for the start of the game.  The coach brought her in as a sub half way through the 1st half and I was out on the sidelines sitting with my husband long before that happened.

What is funny to me is how Greg and I were both intent on getting the information to Mrs G immediately. It was almost as if we knew we were both sending it and were competing to get it to her first. It felt good to be doing something special for her. We really do like each other! ;-)
