MRS. GRANT'S BIO / MRS. GRANT'S BLOG
Mrs. Grant is a Tucson native, born and raised right here in the beautiful Old Pueblo. She and her husband Don are parents to 2 wonderful, very active kids; daughter Mackenzie, and son Jeremy.
Mrs. Grant came to work at MIXfm in March of 2003 after applying for the job as morning show administrative assistant 3 times. The first time was in 1998, again in 2000 but the 3rd time was a charm in 2003. Now 7 years later, Mrs. Grant is the "soccer playing, zumba dancing mom" on the Bobby Rich Morning MIX.
Okay, time for the answer to the big question “Why Mrs. Grant?” The simple answer is she had the same first name as someone else on the show so, to limit confusion we needed her to use another name on-air. One day after the show, while returning a phone call to the nurse at her daughter’s school, it happened... As soon as the words, “Hello Mrs. Anderson, I am Mrs. Grant, Mackenzie’s mom,” left her mouth we knew it was the perfect choice. She IS Mrs. Grant.
Mrs. Grant's favorite way to pass time is hanging out with her friends and family. She likes to barbeque and invite friends, family and/or neighbors to her house to eat, swim and just kick back and catch up for hours. She loves to be outdoors, and her idea of a great vacation is camping for a couple days somewhere in Arizona or on the beach in California.

That's My Girl...

I am so very proud of my daughter for so many reasons and today she made me even more proud. Both of my kids are amazing. Everyday they do something that really touches me. Whether my kids make me laugh, make me smile, make me crazy or make me proud, I always look forward to my time with them.
Today my daughter, Mackenzie made me so very proud. She made the decision last week to have her beautiful hair cut so she could donate it to "Locks for Love." I found out last week when she got in the car, after soccer practice and said, "Mom, I am ready to donate my hair to "Locks for Love" and I hear Gadabout does it for you at no charge." It was that simple, she knew what she wanted to do and she just needed let me know so, I could make an appointment for her after school and take her.
OMG!!!! She's 11... Okay she will be 12 in March, but still...I know she's growing up. She has a great head on her shoulders, she is smart, she is kind and she is a good friend, for each of these reasons and so many more, I am proud of her each and everyday. However, I still see her as my little girl too. I haven't told her this but; lately I am very conscious of her taking my hand when we walk across the parking lot, to the store or the park. Oh and I relish in the fact that she still likes to wrap her arms around me and just give me a big hug or cuddles up to me for no apparent reason. I haven't told her because I don't want to bring attention to it because I don't want it to change. I want it to continue unsolicited for as long as she chooses. Mind you, when it stops I will probably bring it to her attention that I miss it but until then...
Anyway...today was the big day, I picked her up from school. She had comprehensive exams today and we had about 40 minutes betwee nthe time I picked her up and her appointment so, we went out for ice cream. I must have asked her 2 or 3 times if she still wanted to have her hair cut just because I wanted her to know it was her decision and she could change her mind if she wasn't ready. No doubt about it, she was ready. We arrived at the salon, the stylist came and got us, and she took a seat and told the stylist she wanted to have her hair cut so she could donate it to 'Locks for Love.' The stylist cut and styled her hair and then they walked up to the counter where they placed 4 ponytails, each were 10+ inches of her hair, into an envelope. Then, she filled out the paperwork for 'Locks of Love' (name, address, phone number) on the form to be sent with her hair. What a beautiful gift!
She never ceases to amaze me, today she gave the gift of her hair to a great cause and yet, I feel like the lucky one because everyday she gives me the gift of being the mom of a wonderful young lady.

This is a wonderful project for your daughter. Just want you to know I also have two granddaughters who have donated their hair to Locks of Love also. One is 7 and one is 9! Their mother (my daughter) did the same. I now have the longest hair because I am going to soon do so myself. I have a dear friend who has lost her hair because of cancer treatments and it only brings it all even closer to the heart!

She is so beautiful. I like her hair short because it shows her beauty. Parents are the role models for their children. You're a great role model for your children.

Its encouraging to hear about young people thinking more about others needs. May you two always have a close relationship, you have certainly established a good foundation. Thanks for sharing the story with us!

Mrs. Grant,
It is so touching & inspiring to see someone so young be so selfless to be willing to give of herself for someone she doesn't know that will touch that person so profoundly. I myself have been donating my hair for 10 years. I first started because I had a friend that had cancer that had spread throughout her body from the brain down. She loved and admired my long (down to my butt) auburn hair and told me everyday that she wished she could have hair like mine. She had lost her hair multiple times due to the chemo. I checked into donating my hair, at that time, to have a wig made for her. Unfortunately to make a wig you have to have more hair than I could donate. When she passed away a couple months later I decided I would donate, for her, to help other people that feel the same way she did. The first time I donated they were able to get 19 1/2", then it was 17", I am lucky that my hair grows fast and I can donate every 2 - 2 1/2 yrs and give at least 10" every time.
It shows in your daughters selflessness and compasion that she is lucky to have parents that she see's these qualities in and emulates them. Hopefully your daughter will inspire other people that read this story or hear you talk about it on the air to donate something so simple but can mean so much to someone else.
Thank you for sharing this experience with us.
Have a wonderful day!
